In short

What Support at Home is

The single Australian Government program for aged care delivered in your own home.

It started on 1 November 2025 and replaced the Home Care Packages program and Short-Term Restorative Care.

It funds clinical care such as nursing, help to stay independent such as personal care and respite, and everyday living services such as cleaning, transport and social support. The amount of funding depends on your assessed level of need.

The pathway

How it works, step by step

  1. Step 1

    Register with My Aged Care

Call 1800 200 422 or apply online. You can do this yourself or a family member can do it for you.

  2. Step 2

    Have an assessment

An independent assessor visits you at home to understand your needs, goals and living situation.

  3. Step 3

    Receive your classification

Your assessment sets a classification and a quarterly budget for services.

  4. Step 4

    Choose your provider

Pick a registered provider to deliver your services. Your provider then builds your care plan with you.
